The hemochromatosis 845 G-->A and 187 C-->G mutations: prevalence in non-Caucasian populations
Article Abstract:
Frequency of hemochromatosis 845 G-->A and 187 C-->G mutations in the responsible gene, HFE, has been studied in non-Caucasian populations in Australia. Results show the 845 C-->A change to be in the targeted group with allele frequency 0.32%. The change was always found in conjunction with HLA haplotypes common in Caucasians, so it may have been brought in by admixture. In Australian Aboriginal subjects 187 C-->G was associated with HLA haplotypes often seen in Caucasians, but in Chinese samples it was in association with a variety of HLA haplotypes. Hemochromatosis is common in Caucasians.

Mitochondrial and nuclear genetic relationships among Pacific Island and Asian populations
Article Abstract:
Gene flow, genetic diversity and correlations in genetic, linguistic and geographic distances have been studied in four population groups of the Pacific Islands and Asia. The groups are representative of potential geographic and cultural spheres of interaction. Maternally inherited mtDNA data indicate that Remote Oceanic Islanders came from island Southeast Asia. Near Oceanic populations seem to be from highland Papua New Guinea and Australia.

mtDNA diversity in Chukchi and Siberian Eskimos: implications for the genetic history of ancient Beringia and the people of the New World
Article Abstract:
Implications for the genetic history of ancient Beringia and for the people of the New World as found in mtDNA diversity in Chukchi and Siberian Eskimos are discussed. Beringia over millennia was perhaps the location of the respective founding sequences that selectively came into northern North America via western Alaska.
